The NTM-World Map - the first completed NTM-NET project - has been published in the European Respiratory Journal.

Data from 62 laboratories in 30 countries across six continents representing species identification data for 20182 patients were collected. 91.3% (n= 18418) of the isolates were destinguised to species/complex level,
8.7% (n=1765) were not identified beyond Mycobacteriumspecies other than M. tuberculosiscomplex.
91 different NTM species were isolated,6 species accounted for 80% of all mycobacteria identified. This is the first systematic snapsho ton the world wide NTM distribution, howeverdata are not representative forall countries, many countries are missing, especially outside of Europe. The data confirm that each NTM species has its individual epidemiology that differs by region, countries in the region, and regions in the countries. This distribution may determine, in part, the frequency and manifestations of pulmonary NTM disease in each region.
